Skilled Worker visa

Skilled Worker visa replaced Tier 2 General visa in 2021.

To apply for a Skilled Worker visa you will need to have an employer with a Sponsorship licence from the Home Office. Companies having a licence are published on GOV.UK website.

For the sponsorship, your company will assign a Certificate of Sponsorship for you in online management system and then you will be able to insert this reference number into your visa application form.

The range of professions available for Skilled Worker visa is quite extensive and can be found in immigration rules.

There are many requirements around a salary required for a Skilled Worker visa and it is dependent on your job position, age, qualification and other factors.

Some other documents which might be required for the visa application:

  • Proof of knowledge of English – if you are not from a majority English speaking country
  • Bank statements showing that you can support yourself financially
  • Tuberculosis test certificate if you are from a listed country
  • Some jobs positions require criminal record certificate and/or ATAS certificate.

Skilled Worker visa can be granted for a period for up to 5 years and it is subject to the following conditions:

  • You can only work for your sponsor with the exception of supplementary employment (please check description of supplementary employment); voluntary work; working out a contractual notice period for any job you were lawfully working in on the date of application
  • You cannot have access to public funds
  • If you wish to study, ATAS requirement might be applicable to you.
