For Parent visa under Appendix FM your child needs to be living in the UK and be either:
- British Citizen,
- Settled in the UK
- EEA national with a Pre-settled status
Parent can apply either from inside the UK or outside the UK and be either on a 5-year route to Settlement or 10-year route. The latter occurs when an applicant cannot meet some of immigration rules and there are exceptional circumstances involving human rights.
To apply for Parent under Appendix FM visa you will need to show that you can maintain and accommodate yourself and your child in the UK adequately. There is no set amount of money you need to show in your application, however, the Home Office uses a specific formula: your income minus expenses on accommodation ≥ the amount of Income Support an equivalent British family can get.
Relationship requirements are quite stringent for this type of visa and will vary depending on whether you apply from abroad or from inside the UK. Another parent cannot be a partner of applicant, in this case Partner visa is required.
You must be able to prove that you’re taking an active role in your child’s upbringing and you plan to continue after you apply.
Knowledge on English is required.
Tuberculosis certificate – required if you spent the past 6 months in one of listed countries.
